Report on entrance to Port Phillip Bay
Port of Melbourne Corporation (PoMC) released, on
17 August 2006, a report on the most comprehensive scientific
investigation ever conducted at the entrance to Port Phillip
Bay.
The 180-page report by scientific organisation
Australian Marine Ecology (AME) has provided the port with a vast
amount of valuable scientific information as it prepares the key
environmental reports for the proposed Channel Deepening
Project.
One of the learnings from the trial dredge at
the entrance in August 2005 was to look at how to reduce the amount
of loose rock created in the dredging process. The AME study
assessed the outcomes of rock fall after the trial dredge with extensive
underwater field work, concluding in January 2006.
